This is Melissa Stevenson, a Lynx bus driver and Amalgamated Transit Union member. As the march looped around the downtown Lynx bus terminal, Stevenson thrust her fist in the air and voiced her support.

The gentleman with the big sign said he was trying to be helpful. He said he is just the messenger, kind of like the National Hurricane Center. The weather man said a stormy year is coming. We will, of course, have to see which way the wind blows.

“Protect The Right To Assemble”
Occupy Orlando, March on City Hall, October 26, 2011, Orlando

The City of Orlando, like other municipalities across the nation, have initiated a crackdown of the occupy movement. Members of Occupy Orlando have been arrested for ignoring the city’s restrictions on the use of public space.
The city has also recently stepped up their enforcement. The Orlando Policed Department has begun nightly raids of the occupation site at Senator Beth Johnson Park.
Interestingly, the City of Orlando web site describes the park as a “beautiful setting for visitors”.
The city has also begun enforcing onerous restrictions that prohibit nearly every kind of usage of the public space - other than strolling through the park with your dog (on a leash of course) and smelling the flowers on your next visit to the offices of the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Consider the park for your next family picnic. Bring some nice sandwiches, and a refreshing non-alcoholic beverage or two but please be polite and leave your Bill of Rights at home. Enjoy.
